While the new Portuguese watch is undeniably attractive, it comes at a hefty price. It's 50% more expensive than the steel version, a premium that seems excessive even considering the superior performance of Ceratanium. This is especially true considering the Portuguese Chronograph has historically been the brand's entry-level chronograph. Frankly, all IWC Ceratanium models are quite expensive (arguably making them all seem overpriced).

Ceramic Titanium: The case size is the same as the standard model, but all components, including the pushers and crown, are made of Ceratanium. This material, previously only used in their Pilot's luxury replica watches collection, is actually a titanium alloy that is sintered at high temperatures to create a titanium oxide coating, giving the case its matte black appearance. This coating gives the case enhanced scratch resistance, but like all such coatings, it can still be damaged by sufficiently large impacts or abrasion.

The dial is in a grey tone. While not the most legible, the overall effect is quite good. The dial itself is black, while the numerals and hands are in a dark grey glossy finish, and the subdials are decorated with a concentric circle texture, giving them a lighter grey appearance. The Ceratanium model is mechanically identical to the regular production version, and therefore houses the 69355 movement. The movement is located beneath a grey sapphire crystal window, thus appearing dark on the surface, but this is not actually a change.

The 69355 movement, developed by IWC, was intended to replace the ETA Valjoux 7750 movement used in the first generation of Portuguese chronographs. It is similar in size and power reserve to the Valjoux 7750, but features significant structural upgrades.
